Some Reflections about Trauma (26.06.2009)

A lot has been written in the media and in crime- and thriller-fiction about the political and constitutional aftermath of 9/11. Some "true-life"-narratives have also been published. But the "normal" novel about "normal" citizens getting to grips with this are still only a few at least the ones one really can read.
in this book Don DeLillo, who is a New Yorker himself, shows how some people deal - or don't deal - with the traumata incurred by the events on this day. He does this without overly clear definition of the characters in the text, so that from time to time it might happen to the reader that he/she is already reading about somebody else, while still thinking it is the character before.
This forces readers to read very carefully and enhances the feeling for the trauma that is the main-protagonist in many ways.
For what it wants to do this book works quite well, but since I not overly enamored of the subject and therefore find it a bit harder to read than I normally would a book structured like that, I only give four of five stars.
